Role Overview:
The Senior Cloud Engineer serves as a senior-level technical resource responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and optimization of multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, and GCP). This role acts as a technical authority and strategic partner, collaborating with application development, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and networking teams to ensure cloud solutions align with enterprise standards, security requirements, and fiscal objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Architect, deploy, and manage scalable and secure cloud environments across Azure, AWS, and GCP.
Administer cloud services including compute, storage, networking, IAM, firewalls, and serverless functions.
Monitor cloud resource utilization and performance metrics to enforce FinOps practices and optimize expenditures.
Manage cloud-native DevOps pipelines, CI/CD toolchains, and containerized workloads using Docker and Kubernetes.
Implement and maintain cloud disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity (BC) plans.
Lead cybersecurity and vulnerability management for cloud-based resources and external-to-internal modalities.
Partner with application teams to evaluate cloud-native architectures and accelerate legacy migrations.
Coordinate with cybersecurity teams to enforce Zero Trust principles, NIST SP 800-53 controls, and FedRAMP compliance.
Design hybrid connectivity solutions, including VPNs, ExpressRoute, Direct Connect, and SD-WAN integrations.
Manage and administer security certificates in accordance with enterprise policies.
Develop runbooks, escalation procedures, and technical documentation for cloud platforms.
Provide technical mentorship and knowledge transfer to junior ITS staff and leadership.
Core Skills & Competencies:
Deep hands-on expertise in at least two major cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
Advanced knowledge of network fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, and load balancers.
Proficiency in cloud security controls, identity management (Azure AD/Entra ID, AWS IAM), and encryption.
Experience with DevOps automation, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and API gateway integrations.
Familiarity with managed cloud database services such as Azure SQL and Snowflake.
Understanding of NIST, FedRAMP, and Zero Trust security frameworks.
Strong ability to document architecture diagrams, configuration standards, and system inventories.
Required Experience:
5+ years of hands-on experience with at least two of the following: Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
5+ years of experience with network fundamentals and hybrid connectivity solutions.
5+ years of experience implementing cloud security controls and identity management.
Proven experience in cloud infrastructure planning within Agile/Scrum cycles.
Experience with FinOps practices and cloud cost allocation.
Additional Notes:
Position is 95% remote, but the selected candidate must be available for on-site work in Columbus, Ohio as required.
Strong collaboration and technical leadership skills are required.
